Why Is My AC Blowing Warm Air?

Check these three things first

• The thermostat is set to COOL and the fan is on AUTO, not ON. A fan set to ON blows room-temperature air between cooling cycles, which feels like a failure and is not one.
• The outdoor unit is actually spinning. If the indoor side hums but the outdoor fan is still, you have an electrical or capacitor fault.
• The filter is not clogged. A blocked filter starves airflow and can freeze the indoor coil, which then blows warm.

What low refrigerant actually means

Refrigerant is not consumed the way fuel is. A system that is low on refrigerant has a leak, full stop. Adding refrigerant without finding the leak buys you a season at most and vents refrigerant into the atmosphere, which is why EPA 608 certification governs how it is handled. Why a dirty coil blows warm air

An air conditioner moves heat rather than making cold. The outdoor condenser coil is where that heat leaves your house. When it is packed with dust, lawn clippings or coastal salt film, the heat has nowhere to go and the air indoors never gets cold. This is the most common cause we find on systems that have never been maintained.
